Meet Mrs. Hilton

My Family

I consider myself lucky to have had the opportunity to grow up right here in Howell until graduating from Howell High. I then attended Eastern Michigan University where I received my Bachelor's Degree. Soon after I graduated from EMU I began my graduate studies at The University of Michigan (GO BLUE) in Education K-8 and graduated with a Masters in Education in 2011.

After graduating I began working at South Canton Scholars Charter Academy as a 6th grade ELA and Social Studies teacher. The next year I looped with my kids and taught 7th grade ELA for the next four years as well as elective classes like college preparatory, speech and debate, and ran our school student council program.

In 2016 I left SCS and came back to my hometown to teach at Southwest Elementary as the new 5th grade teacher. It was hard to say goodbye to my kids but the best decision for myself and my family, and I was able to come back to the place where I began my schooling too. I'm happy to be teaching in Howell and continue with 5th grade here at Southwest!

While in my first few years of teaching I got married and my husband (Mike) and I have an almost 4 year old son Carter, who is quite the spitfire as I'm sure most of you remember that age with your kids.

I enjoy spending time with my family, all who live close to or in Howell, swimming or boating, going to Michigan football games, going to Broadway shows, and playing outside... when it's warm ;).

I am very proud of my education so when you step into my class you will notice the Michigan phrases or colors. I am also a lover of the arts and musicals so my classroom has a Broadway Theme to show off the music that is created and shared all over the world each year. I want to share with students my passions and that you can like many different things, that's what makes you so great!

My kids learn very quickly that we are stronger together as a team than we are individually and that we are all here to support one another no matter what. We are a family and a team in our room and I'm thrilled that you are joining our team this year.
